My name is Colonel Pratt, and yes, that is my real name. I was named in honor of my oldest uncle who was an officer in the army and unfortunately passed away before I was born. I’ve been in the church since I was born and have been a faithful member of the Church of Christ for more than 20 years. My family moved from Richmond, VA to Anchorage, AK when I was 4 and we lived there for 10 years. We moved back to Virginia when I was 14 years old as a result of a lot of family turmoil and very difficult financial circumstances.
I got married to Kelly, my wife of 16 years, when I was 20 years old and we struggled in poverty for years even while we had two children. Only a year after my daughter was born we decided that I would need to get an education if I was going to live according God’s calling and support our family, so in 2006 I was blessed with the opportunity to attend Ohio Valley University (OVU) where I earned a B.A. in Bible with an emphasis in Missions. Through our entire time there we continued to struggle with poverty, but through the providence of God I was still able to serve as a Summer intern at the Bellevue Church of Christ in 2007 where I had the added blessing of being a part of a short term mission trip to help rebuild New Orleans, LA along side Operation Nehemiah. DUring the Summerof 2008 and while still attending OVU, my family and I were blessed with another opportunity to continue in missions working along with the Let’s Start Talking ministry that enabled us to serve the Mito Church of Christ in Mito, Japan by sharing the Bible with people in the community through basic English lessons.
After I graduated from OVU in 2009, I served as the Part Time Minister for the Mineral Wells Church of Christ for about two months before we submitted to God’s guidance and took an opportunity to go to China as University English teachers with the China Now! ministry where we shared the Bible with our students and many others outside the classroom. The two years we spent in Jingzhou, Hubei, China was transformational and after we returned to the States in 2012 it wasn’t long before we took another opportunity to go back to China to continue our mission work in Shangui, Henan, China for 3 years. I then served as the Full Time minister for the Halls Harbor Road Church of Christ from October 2015 until August 2016. Kelly and I now serve as group foster parents at the New Mexico Christian Children's Home in Portales, NM. Our son is 14 and my daughter is 12 and I thank God that through everything they both decided to become Christians.
All of these experiences have taken me through stress, isolation, depression, culture shock, health difficulties, danger, surprises, growth, faith, worship, and victories, all to the glory of God. Since I've complete the Certified Professional Life Coach training through the Christian Coach Institute in 2016, I’m ready to use the lessons I've learned from all of these incredible experiences and put them to work for you as your coach!
